Commuter Benefits

My Commuter Check benefits are convenient, flexible and another way to lower taxable income. Each month, employees can contribute pre-tax funds to cover transit and/or parking expenses incurred to get to and from work.

The commuter benefit is not a “Use It or Lose It” type of account. As long as you stay an active participant, unused funds will rollover to the next plan year, but transit receipts cannot be older than 6 months.

Transit Account

Set aside up to the 2023 maximum of $300 per month to pay for transportation costs for travel to and from work:

  • Mass Transit Vehicles: bus, BART, train, ferry and subway
  • Vanpooling (commuter vehicle that seats at least 6 not including the driver)

Parking Account

Set aside up to the 2023 maximum of $300 per month to pay for work-related parking expenses:

  • Parking expenses at your place of employment
  • Parking expenses at a location from which you commute to work (e.g. mass transit or carpool)
  • Vendor parking, including lots and garages
